You may be wondering what the difference is between coaching and therapy. Coaches and therapists while similar in many ways are also very different. The goal of both is to create long lasting change for the success of the client.
Therapy is focused more on past challenges or traumas. A therapist can help you manage mental illnesses and even diagnose. Therapy focuses more on the emotional health of the client. Therapists are required to have a master's degree, and some even hold PsyDs. Therapist also are licensed in their respective states.
Coaching on the other hand is focused on present and future goals, as well as skill-building. Coaches provide an educational approach in order to elevate a specific area of a client's life. Coaches are not required to have a certain level of education nor a license. Neuro Butterfly Coaching is able to work in collaboration with mental health providers in order to ensure continuity of care.
Maybe you have heard of behavioral coaching or even ABA therapy. These terms are aligned with a Board-Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA). Professionals in this field hold a master's in behavioral analyst and also hold a license in their respective states. Their approach to neurodivergence is to implement ABA therapy. ABA focuses on principles of conditioning (rewards and punishments) in order to make behavior more socially acceptable. While Neuro Butterfly Coaching recognizes that this approach may be beneficial for some clients, Neuro Butterfly Coaching does not implement nor endorse ABA therapy.
